Vasco da Gama Bridge
Prestressed concrete bridge with composite cross section (concrete + concrete).
Structural analysis of the Central Viaduct (length = 6351m) constructed using 78 m
long pre-cast concrete deck units and pre-cast piers resting on piled foundations.
Two 130 m spans over the channels (Barcas, Samora) were supported on pillars
protected from impact by vessels.
Built in the BOT (build-operate-transfer) system by Lusoponte, a private consortium
which got a 40-year concession on the tolls.
